Drop
Sheet metal, water, recycled steel cable
Permanent installation, Alsversjö Open Collective, Sweden
N 57° 37' 15.96 E 14° 55' 35.4252
An interactive (sound) sculpture suspended in mid-air.

An oversized, grotesque yet poetic water form—a wounded, hybrid work embodying for material vulnerability and ecological suffering.

To the side of the drop is a lever. As people turn the lever, this powers on a shepard’s tone - an audio illusion, continuous rising and falling frequencies that, however long you wait…never heighten or finally land.

Patination over time, the work seems to blend into the Swedish nature.

Spring, starting to grow, paint still bright.
In winter, creepers starting to takeover as the structure develops a more faded, post apocalyptic feel.

After building the sculpture, I collaborated with engineers to choreograph the heart to light up
to music and choreographed patterns on the water, so the heart appears to dance

“Collaboration, participation and play are central — I’m serious about my work, but also silly in it.”

Bibi grew up in a Dutch immigrant family on the West Coast of New Zealand before moving to Amsterdam in 2019. Growing up in West Auckland with its dense nature and expansive beaches has shaped Bibi and her work. Her sculptures, often made from recycled wood, metal, and textile — are singing, wounded, hybrid bodies. They often tremble, play, reference material vulnerability, living ecosystems, ecological suffering, the feminine grotesque and humanity’s connection to nature. Her works often come across as playful yet have deeper layers of meaning. They grow, decay, and are in flux.

Process
In the studio Bibi is led by conceptual visions but also works intuitively to let material speak, so there’s structure and chance. She often works collaboratively and has founded several collectives, yet craves solo studio time as well. Her practice has a feminist lens, through which she question systemic structures, explores interdependence, and connects with social and environmental concerns.

Collectives and Collaborations

TЯAsh Collective
Bibi founded TЯAsh Collective in 2022—a collective of artists, engineers, social workers, and researchers creating art from recycled materials.

(KYBL)
KIEM, Yufei Gao, Bibi Jordan and Lorena Rode first collaborated in May 2024 for the 'Radical Connection' exhibition in Amsterdam. When student protests against Dutch ties to Israeli institutions erupted, the artists transformed their individual works into a collaborative, site-specific piece of censorship, Radical Disconnection.

Snack’n Sketch
Bibi she hosts regular sketch sessions to observe and respond to our changing environment.
